Anand General information
Anand district is a district of Gujarat state. It was carved out of the Kheda district in 1997. Anand is the administrative headquarters of the district. It is bounded by Kheda District to the north, Vadodara District to the east, Ahmedabad District to the west, and the Gulf of Cambay to the south. The district had a population of 1,856,872 of which 27.36% were urban as of 2001.
History
Anand is known as the Milk Capital of India. It became famous for Amul dairy and its Milk revolution. This City hosts the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) of India and Anand Agricultural University. The IRMA (Institute of Rural Management, Anand) campus is also situated in Anand. IRMA runs a two year Post Graduate Programme(PGP) in Rural Management which is considered to be one of the best in the world. Nana Adadh is part of Anand and is home to the Swaminarayan Mandir along with Revadas Ni Khadki and Darvaja Vali khadki
Geography
Situated between Ahmedabad (85 Kilometers North-West) and Vadodara (35 Kilometers South), Anand is well connected to major cities in India. It is on Ahmedabad-Mumbai National Highway 8 and is connected by rail on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai broad-gauge route. Anand experiences extreme weather conditions, with the temperature between 5 and 25 degrees Celsius during winters (November to February) and between 35 and 40 degrees during summers (March to June). Though a small town, it is one of the most important towns in Gujarat. The population of Anand is around 100,000. The municipal corporation also runs a local transport facility through its small fleet of buses. In addition, Gujarat Agricultural University runs its own fleet of buses which ply between the railway station and the University campus.
