Sabar Kantha district General information
Sabarkantha district is a district in the state of Gujarat. The administrative headquarters of the district is Himmatnagar, about 80 km from Ahmedabad. Sabarkantha District has a population of 2,082,531 of which 10.81% were urban as of 2001. It covers an area of 7,390 km². Sabarkantha District is bounded by Rajasthan state to the northeast, Banaskantha and Mehsana districts to the west, Gandhinagar and Kheda districts to the south and Panchmahal District to the east.
Hathmati city was named after the King Himmat Sinh. There is also a school- Himmat High School which was named after the King. Motipura, Mehtapura, Mahavirnagar, Pologround are major areas of the city.

Tourist Place
Idar: located about 20 km north of Himatnagar and 25 km from Gujarat's border with Rajasthan. It is known for the manufacture of toys, and for its temples. The market of toys in Idar is known as Kharadi Bazaar. Idar is at the southern end of the Aravalli Range. Many temples of Lord Shiva are found in these mountains. In history, victory over the Idar state was considered as a difficult task.
Shamlaji:is one of the largest pilgrim temples of the Sabarkantha district. It is more commonly known among locals as "Dhodi Dhwaja Vada" because it always has a white silk flag flittering on top of temple. Its unique designs on the outer part of temple is one of its greatest attractions; the image becomes more interesting with the mountains in the background. The temple has a beautiful sculpture of Lord Krishna as Shamdiya bhagwan, with a piece of real diamond embossed on his chin.
