Guna district General information

 Guna gateway of Malwa & Chambal is located on the northern -eastern part of Malwa Platue. between Parbati and the Betwa. Mathematically the District is situated between the radiameters 23'53" N and 25'6'55 N and langumate 76.48' 30"E and 78', 16'70"E. The  western boundary of the District is well defined by the river.  The Parbati is the main river flowing along the western boundary touching Rajgarh District of M.P. and Jhalawarh and Kota District of Rajasthan. Shivpuri & Kota are located in north where as Vidisha, Bhopal, and Rajgarh lies to the South. The total area of District is 6484.63 sq.Km. with a population of 838926.

History

Initially Guna sees to be the part of Avanti Kingdom founded by Chand Pradyota Mahesena Later on Shishusangh added the kingdom of Avant which included Guna to the growing empire of Magadha

In the beginning of 18th century Chanderi was the part of Malwa and remaining portion of Guna formed the part of Raghogarh State. Later on Raghogarh was split into three state of which Garah and Dharnawada State among the three clamaints of Raghogarh family. After the great revolt of 1857, Guna district thus passed under the control of Gwalior State with Raghogarh as its mandatory chief. An assistant to the resident of Gwalior was posted at Guna which remained. an English cantonment after the year 1860. Although Guna was dejure a part of Gwalior State, but because of its British cantonment, it was considered expedient to locate the district headquarter there.
Bajrangarh, about 6 miles from Guna enjoyed that privilege. In 1897 the midland railway constructed the rail route passing through Guna.After independence on 28th May 1948, Guna became the part of Madhya Bharat as one of its 16 Districts subsequently as a result of State on the formation of new Madhya Pradesh in 1956 Guna district became a part of it.

Area and Population

Guna District is divided into five tehsils and has population of 838926 spread over area of 6484.63 sq.Km.

Industry

Endowed with rich black Colton soil , Guna is the granary of region and thus has received agriculture predominance the heritage from the past. But having of shaken off the heavy yoke of princely rule in 1949, Guna has lately awekened to the need of industrial and commercial expansion too. Lying mid way between Gwalior in the north and Indore in the South the too big industrial and commercial center's, its situation on the main National Highway add to its potentialities in the sphere of industrialization too some of the main industrial units are as follows.

2. Gas Authority of India Ltd.

3. Deepak Spinners Ltd.

Tourist Place

The district is home to the heritage citadel Bajrangarh fort, though now it is lying in depilated state. It is also had religious places such as Bishbji and Jain shrines besides a few other interesting places. Though it's not on a tourism map, neither many people know much about it, except in political circles. Guna was once famous for saris from Chanderi block of the district which recently became part of the newly formed district Ashok Nagar. The information superhighway (web world) reveals that Guna was also the birthplace of one Vijay Kumar Patodi, a mathematician who died at the young age of 31 but attained fame for his papers.
