Rewa district General information
Rewa lies between 24'18 and 25'12 north latitudes and 81'2 and 82'18 east longitudes in the north-east of the division of the same name . The district is bounded on the north and east by the state of Uttar Pradesh, in the south Sidhi district and in the west with Amarpatan and Raghurajnagar tahsils of Satna district. In shape the district can be compared to an isosceles triangle, with its base along the Satna border and the two longer arms converging towards Mauganj in east .
History
The district derives its name from Rewa town, the district headquarters, which is another name for Narmada river. The district with present boundary came into existence in 1950 after the promulgation of the Provinces and states (Transfer of ENCLAVES) order 1950. Prior to August 1947 the district along with the Raghurajnagar tahsil of the erstwhile Rewa state correspended to the north Rewa district of that state . The territones now included in the district were held by the imperral Maurya dynasty which ruled in the 3rd century B.C. In the advent of the Kalchurls from the 9th to the end of 12th century. The Baghela king driven eastwards by Ulugh Khan , brother of the emperor Alauddin in the 13th century appeared in this Baghela kings till the abdication of the Crown by the last successor of the dynasty, Martand Singh.after the country became independent, the Rewa ruler accede to the Union of India. The present Rewa district came into existence in 1950 .
Geography
The district can be divided into the four natural parts-kymore pahar, Binjh Pahar, Rewa Plateau and Lower-Northern Plain .The Huzur, Sirmour and Mauganj tahsils lie between the Kymore on the south and the Vindhyachal or Binjh pahar on the north and from what is known as Rewa plateau or uprihar. To the north of the Vindhyachal in the uprihar lies Teonther tahsils whish is quite different with regard to its physical and other features from the plateau tahsils. Rewa is basically a plateau and from the south to the north its height decreases. In the south the height of Kymore range is more than 450 meters, whereas the height of Alluvral plain of Teonthor is just 100 meters. In the district, dissected hills, ravines, plain plateau, scarp, water-fall and alluvral plain can be seen. The rain-water of the district is flown out by the tw0o assisting rivers of the Ganga, Tons or Tamas and Son. Most of the rivers in the district intitrate from the Kymore ridges which from the watershed for the area .
Education
Sainik School is also located in Rewa. It is the only Sainik School in the state. Sainik Schools are located through out India (one in each state) that train students to become future military officers.
Kendriya Vidyalaya affiliated to CBSE board and under HRD ministry of India and is one among best school of the city located at civil lines behind Rajniwas.
Jyoti senior secondary school is one among best school of M.P. Central Academy Senior Secondary School , Rewa (M.P.) is located in the heart of the city about 400 meters away from NH-7 Near the NCC office. The Attractive School Building is build on Govt. Allotted Nazul land. In front of school, there is an open Parade Ground (About 6 Acres Land) of the NCC (Ministry of Defence, Govt. Of India.). The School Runs The Co-Educational Classes From Nursery, Kg, Std. I to XII under the Central Academy Educational Society.
Rewa has a University called Awadhesh Pratap Singh Vishvavidalaya (A.P.S University). It has Government Shyam Shah Singh Medical College. It also has a government Engineering college and two private Engineering colleges RIT (rewa Institute of Technology) and Jawaharlal Institute of Technology, It has Government Agriculture college, Ayurvedic Medical College, and Sanskrit College.
There are four degree colleges: Model Science College, Thakur Ranmat Singh College, Janta College, and Girls Degree college that award post graduate degree's.
There is also a school named The J J House founded by the charity project Holy World Foundation . This charity project is founded in 2003 by the Dutch pub owner Jac v Dongen and his Indian friend Anand Pidiha. They started building a school and now they are building a hospital. The money comes from people from Holland.
Industry
As this is a limestone belt and coal is found in the nearby districts of Shahdol,Umaria,Sidhi and Singrauli,Various cement factories are nearby including Jaypee group in Naubasta,Bela(dist. Satna) and Bhagwar(dist.Sidhi) and The JAYPEE group has made a township known as Jaypee Nagar in Rewa.
Asia's biggest cement factory Prism cement (prev. Rasi Cement) produces near Rewa at Satna Distt.
Various Birla Group Companies like Vindhya Tele Links, Birla Ericson Ltd are also there.
Access
Railways: Rewa is connected to Satna through 50 Km Rewa Satna Rail Line. Satna falls on Mumbai Howrah main line via allahabad.
Road: Rewa falls in India's longest Highway NH 7 Varanasi to KanyaKumari Via Mirzapur, Katni, Jabalpur,Nagpur,Hyderabad,Bangalore.NH 27 To Allahabad, NH 75 From Ranchi To Gwaliar pass through Rewa.
Air: Nearest Airports are Khajuraho and Allahabad 127 Km. Rewa has also got Air Strip at Churhat.
Tourist Place
Deorkothar: It is known for its Buddhist stupas. The Deur Kothar stupa may have been established by the Maurya king Asoka in the 3rd century BCE. In the ancient times, the site was located on the Dakshinapatha (Southern Trade Route) running east-west from Patliputra (Patna) to Pratishthana in Maharashtra through Central India. Being situated centrally amongst the famous Buddhist places like Sanchi, Sagar, Kaushambi and Sarnath, Deur Kothar used to be visited by Bhuddhist monks frequently.
Govindgarh: GovidGarh is situated in Rewa distirict. There is Asia's biggest pond(Taalab) in Govind Garh.
