Shajapur is a district of Madhya Pradesh state of central India. The town of Shajapur is the district headquarters. The district was formerly a district of Gwalior State. When Gwalior acceded to the Government of India after Indian Independence in 1947, Shajapur District, along with the rest of Gwalior State, became part of Madhya Bharat state. Madhya Bharat was merged into Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 1956.

Geography
The entire district is a part of the Deccan Traps flood basalts of the Cretaceous-Paleocene. Alluvium of the recent period is, however, found along the river Parbati in a narrow strip. The district has deep black and shallow black brown and alluvial soils of the northern region.
Location
Shajapur District is part of the Malwa Plateau. The district is situated in the northwestern part of the state and lies between latitudes 32"06' and 24" 19' North and longitude 75" 41' and 77" 02' East. The district is bounded by Ujjain District to the west, Dewas and Sehore to the south, Rajgarh to the east, and Jhalawar District of Rajasthan to the north. Shajapur District is part of Ujjain Division.

Baijnath Mahadeo Mandir: Commander Martin of Gorkha regiment of British chhavani was gone to a war . His wife went to Baijnath mahadeo and made a request for his returning. Then Martin successfully came back from war and a beautiful temple was constructed. This temple is about 4 km away from AGAR on the indore kota road.This mandir is located on the bank of the BANGANGA river. The construction of this mandir was Started 1528 and completed in 1536.SABHA MANDAP is in the front of the mandir which is opened from all four sides.The image of the river is the center of the SABHA MANDAP. Height of this mandir is about 50 feet from ground level. Height of the KALASH IS 4 feet.There is 17 feet deep KUND(WELL) on the back side of the mandir.Many historical mandirs are present in the campus of Baijnath Mandir ,such as BARAH MANDIR,GANESH MANDIR,BHERUBABA MANDIR, MANGALNATH HANUMAN MANDIR,GAYATRI MANDIR.
Bhainsava Matar Mandir: This Mandir is located at village Bhainsava, which is 20 km away from SARANGPUR. This mandir is also known by the name BIJASAN MATA. BHAISAVA mata is the name because of ,BHAISAVMATA has killed BHAISASUR. Number of peoples visit to BHAISAVA MATA in the NAVRATRI. It is said that Mata appeared here before 1000 years.That time there was only a platform which is now converted in a big temple. Peoples from different places visit here for worship. On the occasion of BASANT PANCHMI a fair is organised here.
KAREDI MATA MANDIR: KAREDI MATA MANDIR is 10 km away from the shajapur . This mandir is also known as KANKAVATI MATA. KAREDI MATA MANDIR is the main worship place of MALWA. This mandir was established by the king KARNA of mahabharata time . On The shoulder of the mata,there is JALKUND,which is totally full of water everytime. Number of deovtees come to KAREDI MATA from different places. .Marks of SNAKE are also present on the murtis. MELAS are organised here on tuesday during RANGAPANCHAMI. MAHADEO MANDIR is also here,which is above this mandir. CHAMPAS tree is in fornt of this mandir. The "naga chinha" can be found here on several idols which is the indications of Naga Vanshi dynesty.
MATA BAGULAMUKHI MANDIR: Temple of MATA BAGULAMUKHI is very famous in Nalkheda. It is very ancient. This temple is famous for TANTRIK SADHNA after UJJAIN. Hanuman mandir is on the east of kasba. PANCHMUKHI HANUMAN mandir is in the centre. Outside of the kasba GANESH mandir is present. MATA BAGULAMUKHI is situated on the bank of the river lakshmana on the north-west.
RAJRAJESHWARI MATA MANDIR: This is the historical place of SHAJAPUR. SHAJAPUR is situated on the AGRA-BOMBAY ROAD and also on the bank of the river CHILLER.RAJRAJESHWARI MATA MANDIR is situated on the bank of the river CHILER on west.According to ancient history ,300 years ago in 1781 MANIBAI PALTAN has donated the 4 BHIGA 2 BISAVA .IN 1791 TARABAI has donated 4106/- rupees to the construction of this mandir. Height of the MURTI is about 6 feet.SABHA MANDAP which is infront mandir is established in 1734.
In that mandir murtis of RIDDHI-SIDDHI ANd GANPATI ARE also there.One well is the area of this mandir .DHARMSALA is also established by BHAKTAS. This mandir is the center of ASTHA.
PARSHAVNATH BHAGWAN MANDIR: This is one of the famous mandir in INDIA. This mandirs area is equal to the half the area of maksi Mandirs of the panth DIGAMBER-SHWETAMBER as well as VAISHANAVI DEVI are in maksi.In main mandir there is murti of PARSHAVNATH BHAGWAN There are two panths of jain community namely SHWETAMBAR AND DIGAMBAR Jain teerth place is about 2000 years old. All the walls of the mandir are wet .It is siad that in the area of this mandir theft is impossible.
KALBHAIRAV MANDIR: HARSIDDHI AND KALBHAIRAV mandir is located at village SUNDARSI which is 30 km away from the district headquarters.The old name of the SUNDARSI was SUNDARGAD. Vikramdityas sister Sundrbai was married with the king of SUNDARGAD RAJA BHAGWAT SINGH. SUNDARBAI was the student of BHAGWAN MAHAKAL and MATA HARSIDDHI. These mandirs are established by the KING RAJA VIKRAMADITYA. The KAL BHAIRAV MANDIR is situated at the bank of the river KALSINDH. This mandir is like the mandir KALBHERAV at UJJAIN.
