Phek is a district of Nagaland state in India
Culture
The District Cultural office was established in the year 1982. the department oof Art & Culture mainly deals with promotiion of culture, performing Art, development of Museum, promotion of Library services, Archeology, Registration of Antiquity and Art treasures.The district Museum attached to this office has a showroom with few specimens on display.There are 36 Rural Libraries in the district registered under the department of Art & Culture. The Department has collected around 35 Folk songs and 60 Folk tales covering the Chakhesang and the Pochury tribes.
Horticulture
The department of Horticulture became a full-fledged directoriate in April 1992 with the objective of boosting the production of fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices and other phantation crops in the State by adopting various packages of practice.
Sport
The District Sports department was first established in the district on 1st May, 1979.The department headed by the District Sports Officer(DSO) has its main aims and objectives of searching and developing the motor qualities in young men and women through participation in games & sports.
Planing
The District Planning machinery headed by Assistant Planning Officer was established in Phek district in the year 1987.A full-fledged District Planning Officer took over the charge in 1994.
District Planning Officer (DPO) is the member secretary of District Planning & Development Board (DPDB). The main function of the District Planning Machinery is to co-ordinate with various departmental activities and implementing District Plan and Border Area Development Schemes
Evaluation
The District Evaluation department headed by the District Evaluation Officer(DEO) was established in 1986 in Phek district.The department carries out evaluation study which are sometimes, assigned directly by the Central government with specific guidelines and time bound. Also the State government also assigns the department to evaluate certain developmental schemes/programmes under any department by providing prepared schedules and time bound.The Evaluation department is the feeding department to the State Planning and Co-ordination.
Power Department
The department of Power in the district headed by Executive Engineer with its divisional office at the district headquarter consist of two sub-division at Phek and Pfutsero and backed by sectional establishments at Meluri, Chozuba, Weziho and Chizami.The above set-up co-ordinates all related activities of the department such as transmission, distribution, consumer servicing and revenue management.
The potential for Hydro-power generation is been actively pursued in the district with survey and invistigation works at various stages of progress for Tizu valley Hydro-electric project, Shilloi Hydro-electric project and smaller micro-hydel projects of Tesuru and Arachu.
Tourist Place
One Tourist Officer from the Directorate of Tourism,Nagaland Kohima has been assigned to look after the tourism related matters in order to promote tourism in the district.
Khezhakeno, the legendary village in Phek district has been identified for setting up of rural tourism center. This would promote rural based tourism activities.Also,to attract tourist a project for beautification and development of Shilloi lake, is underway.
