Dhalai district General information

Dhalai District is the youngest district in Tripura. It is formed in 1995. The District is rich in natural resources. More than 70% area of this district is hilly and forest covered. It has tremendous scenic beauty.

Dhalai district was formed in 1995 . The district headquarter is at Ambassa. The Dhalai district was created after carving out some portion from south Tripura district and some portion from north Tripura district.

The Dhalai District is named after the river "Dhalai" flowing across this district from South to North.

The district Headquarter is situated at Ambassa which is around 90 KM from the state capital Agartala. It is connected through NH 44 and takes around 3 hours to reach. There is no Railway Station in this district. Construction of new railway lines is going on very smoothly.

Fairs and Festivals:

      Attractive Fair :   Rash Fair of Manipuri community held sometime in November at   Baralutma Maharash Mandap 18 kms from Dist. H.q .

      Attractive Dance : 1. Lebang Bumani : This is a famous Dance of the Riang community. The dance isperformed standing on a bottle as well as keeping a bottle on the forehead.

      2.  Dhamail of  Bengali community ( Group Dance ) .

      3.  Hajagiri – Another Dance of the Riang Community

 

INDUSTRY

There is a Pineapple juice concentration plant of North Eastern Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation Ltd. (Neramac) situated at Nalkata. This is the only major industrial setup in the district.

Apart from this, there are a lot of Handicraft industries in the unorganised sector. One of the major product of these industries are Incense sticks.

Kamaleswari Mandir: Kamaleswari is another name of  Goddess Kali. Kamalpur the largest Sub-divisional Town has been named after the temple.Kamaleswari Mandir is situated in the centre point Kamalpur town   which is about 35 kms away from Ambassa ,District H.Q of Dhalai and 122 kms from Agartala the State capital of Tripura. 

Longtharai Mandir :  Longtharai is the name of “ God Shiba” in “KOK BOROK” the Tribal dialect of Tripura. It is stated that “Shiba” during his travel from Kailash  rested here for sometime in the hill of Longtharai. The hill is therefore known as Longtharai. Longtharai also means a “ Deep Valley”. Longtharai Temple is situated on 44 National Highway and it is about 102 kms from Agartala, the State Capital of Tripura and 56 Kms from Kumarghat,the last rail Head of Tripura.
