Hathras district General information
Hathras is a district of Uttar Pradesh with its headquarters located at Hathras town. The district is surrounded by district Aligarh in the North, district Etah in the East, Firozabad in the South and district Mathura in the West. It forms a part of Agra Division.
Hathras came under the Brij region of Nothern India and was famous for its Industrial, Literary, and cultural activities.
Access
By Air : There is no air strip in this district. The nearest airport is at Agra.
By Rail : Hathras Junction Railway station is 10 Km away from Hathras. It is on Delhi - Kanpur Broad Gauge Railway Track.
By Road : There is a good network of roadways connecting major parts of the state with Hathras.

The total population of the district is 11,29,729 according to the 1991 census.
Area
Hathras District of Uttar Pradesh is spread over an area of 1,752 sq km. The headquarters is located at Hathras, about 53 km from Agra. The Karban and Sengar are two important rivers. Many archeological items of Hindu, Buddhist, Jain culture and also of the Kushan period were excavated at many places in Hathras.
Economy
The economy depends mostly on agriculture and industry. There are a number of manufacturing units of readymade garments, chemicals, carpet, brass, art-ware and hardware, edible oil, beverage, and medicine. The agricultural produce includes dhan, jawar and bajara.

The major crops which are cultivated in the district are jowar, bajra, pulses and potato.
