Sonbhadra district General information

Sonbhadra or Sonebhadra is the largest district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The district has an area of 6788 km² and a population of 1,463,468 (2001 census), with a population density of 216 persons per km². It lies in the extreme southeast of the state, and is bounded by Mirzapur District to the northwest, Chandoli District to the north, Bihar state to the northeast, Jharkhand state to the east, Chhattisgarh state to the south, and Madhya Pradesh state to the west. The district headquarters is in the town of Robertsganj.

By Air : The nearest airport for Sonbhadra is in Varanasi which is 110 Kms from Robertsganj (District HQ.). There are direct flights from Varanasi to different major cities i.e. Delhi, Agra, Khajuraho, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow & Bhubhneshwar etc and vice-versa.

By Rail : The nearest railway station for District Headquarter is "Robertsganj” which is on the loop line from Chunar (Delhi-Howrah line). There are so many other stations in District Sonbhadra i.e. Chopan, Renukoot, Shaktinagar etc. The major train’s passing through the Sonbhadra are :

Moorie Express (8101/8102) (From Tatanagar to Pathankot) Jharkhand Swarnjayanti Express (8603/8604) (from Hatia to Delhi) Triveni Express (4269/4270) (From Lucknow to Shaktinagar/Singrauli) Shaktipunj Express.

These trains directly connected Sonbhadra to various cities i.e. Delhi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiyana, Ranchi, Lucknow, Kolkotta etc.

By Road : The Sonbhadra is well connected to Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Mirzapur etc by road. Buses are 24 hours available from Varanasi to Sonbhadra & it will take hardly 2 ½ hours to Robertsganj the District Headquarter.

The easiest way to come Sonbhadra is by train/air upto Varanasi/ Mirzapur then take a bus/private taxi to Sonbhadra, which are available 24 hours from varanasi & Mirzapur.
